Glenn Melvin, the Stokesley-based plasterer turned inventor, collected the coveted Orange Award for Bright Business in a gala ceremony at The National Business Awards at Grosvenor House in London on Tuesday, 8th November. The Award was presented to Glenn by Alastair MacLeod, Vice President Business Solutions Orange UK before a gathering of over 1200 leading business people, parliamentarians, press and other VIPs.
Glenn used his own garage to begin developing Wall-Reform, a new thermally efficient insulating plaster/render product which is a more economical method of insulation initially aimed at the seven million solid wall properties not being insulated due to cost. It also has damp proofing qualities.
""To be in a position to be able to contribute to cutting CO2 emissions on a national or even international basis is a tremendous way to provide for the welfare of others - for this generation and those to come,"" commented Glenn, ""And we feel proud that we are on our way to achieving this aim.""
The category judges looked for an outstanding 'non-board' level individual or team whose initiative, drive and determination has made an exceptional contribution to a business resulting in a positive gain for the organisation. The impact on the business could be in one of a variety of areas including: team motivation, increased efficiencies, innovation, financial gain and creative thinking.
Other finalists in the category were the BioCote Marketing Team, Gwyn Roberts of Cwmni Tref Caernarfon, Nadine Lewis of IdentiKids, Goula Charalambous of Syscap, Nic Rodgers of Enable Interactive, Michael Lawson of Landscape Planning Group, Kelly Bennett from Royal Bank of Scotland, Dr Jo Greenwood of SmartWater Technology, and Susan Jack of Stream Communications.
