London, 9th September 2008 - Multi-Grammy award winner John Legend will join Guillemots and Busta Rhymes to play an exclusive, money-can't-buy gig for volunteers taking part in Orange RockCorps, a national music-led volunteering programme.
Taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on 26th September, tickets to the cross-genre, all-star supergig will not be available for fans to purchase or win. In a bold departure from the norm, fans can't buy their ticket, they can't win their ticket, they have to earn their ticket by taking part in a four hour Orange RockCorps community project.
Orange RockCorps will organise 60 volunteer projects across the UK before 26th September in collaboration with charities, including The Prince's Trust, Crisis, Young Timebank, and Hoxton Hall. All volunteers are encouraged to strike up a long-term relationship with these charities, without the lure of a gig ticket.
Brit Award-nominated indie band Guillemots and Grammy Award-winner Busta Rhymes have already taken part in Orange RockCorps projects, as have Dirty Pretty Things frontman Carl Barat and Charlatans rocker Tim Burgess.
Powered by Sony Ericsson, the Orange RockCorps gig will be televised on Channel 4 following a series of special shows on T4. Doors to the exclusive event will open at 6.45pm.
RockCorps, a pro social music production company, has partnered with Orange to harness the power of music to inspire a new generation of young people to make a real difference in their local community.
Stephen Greene, RockCorps co-founder and CEO commented: “We've taken pains to pull together an all-star, cross-genre eclectic lineup to ensure that musically there's something to reward every single volunteer who's given up four hours to give back to their community. We hope to inspire thousands of young people to help their community, get involved and make a real difference through a love of music.”
RockCorps has been running in the US for four years, collaborating with artists including Kanye West, Kelis, Panic at the Disco, Nas, Korn, and Nelly. More than 35,000 young people have participated in projects that have benefited their local communities, and over 35% of those participants have volunteered again within 12 months.
Orange RockCorps powered by Sony Ericsson and Channel 4, will be working with XFM, and Choice with online support from Impact UK, MySpace's channel for charities, non-profits and community organisations to campaign and enable the community to make a difference
